Westside Jewish Community Center
WJCC TEXT
Lehrer Architects received the commission to renovate this historic structure on Los Angeles’ Westside, which has been the home of the Westside Jewish Community Center for nearly fifty years. The community has long relied on the facility for recreational and educational needs, but has grown beyond the capabilities of the original building; old functions and paths of circulation have fallen into disuse. Nevertheless, Lehrer Architects found the existing complex to have “good bones.” Striving to incorporate the significant strengths of this community staple into the new scheme, Lehrer Architects conducted extensive public workshops and historical studies. The ensuing master plan will update and energize the buildings and the community, giving new life for the 21st century. With health club, swimming pool, early
childhood center, senior day care, performing arts center, playgrounds and on-site parking, Lehrer Architects’ full array of services will continue after completion of the current pre-design phase.
